Updated: 12/21/2009 5:56pm PST Description: A comedy of biblical proportions In this sequel to Bruce Almighty, newscaster Evan Baxter (Steve Carell, The Office) has traded in the news desk for a post in Washington as a congressman. Though his campaign was based on the idea of changing the world, Evan drives a gas-guzzling SUV and spends more time trimming his nose hair than with his three sons. When he has a strange encounter with God (Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, reprising his role from the first film), God tells him to build an ark, just as Noah did thousands of years ago. Though Evan is skeptical, he finally accepts the task after being hounded by dozens of animals that follow him, two by two. By obeying God, Evan risks his family, career, and sanity--but will a flood actually come and prove him right? Evan Almighty is a pure family affair. Its predecessor featured some sexual humor, but this is a squeaky clean film that kids and parents can enjoy equally. Evan Almighty also features the talents of Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) and John Goodman, but the funniest lines and delivery come from Wanda Sykes and Jonah Hill as members of Evan's staff. Most of the film's jokes garner giggles, but the lines from this pair get guffaws. Get the Comedy Films Collection and save! Special Features: - Additional Release Material: Deleted Scenes

Steve Carrell has a tendency to be a bit crass, and Bible parody movies are frequently poorly done and leave me angry at the spoof. However, this was a really good movie! My husband and I laughed out loud several times and the intertwining of the Biblical story was actually quite well done. There was no problematic language (that I remember) and no questionable scenes. All in all a good watch! Evan Almighty - DVD – Mike Bousman, 06/30/2008Probably one of the funniest movie I've ever seen!!!! Constant hiliarious moments throughout the movie!!! Evan Almighty - DVD – Emilio Avila, 06/22/2008Excellent movie! Funny and Clean for the Kids to watch. Praise GOD! Evan Almighty - DVD – Joshua Crotinger, 01/28/2008We thought it was a good movie. The overall message was great. It taught my children to stand up for what they belive in no matter what. Evan at one point in the movie stood completely alone, lost his wife, kids, career, but continued to persue what God called him to do. How many of us would do the same? Evan Almighty - DVD – Trevor Crowe, 12/13/2007This was an okay movie. I liked the struggle Evan finds himself in. Being called by God, and forsaking a job, carreer, family and pleasures of life for a higher calling. It's something I could relate to. Its something many Christians can relate to. This movie captures the sincerity of that struggle, yet mocks it at the same time. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.
The ending really rubbed me the wrong way. It made me realize that Hollywood simple does NOT GET Christianity. At the end, God writes "ARK" in the sand with a stick saying "Acts of Randon Kindness" as if that's the moral/point/ or main desire of God for humanity. This is a 'works based salvation' that is unfortunately the opinion of the majority of our western culture. It was a continual issue the Apostle Paul faught against, and one we still have to fight against today. I cannot reccommend this movie. And certainly not for any outreach purposes, as it skews the Character of God, into a humanistic God.
Trevor Evan Almighty - DVD – Brenda Wendel, 10/30/2007To say that this movie is "squeaky" clean is, to me, misleading. There are at least 3 instances of "Oh my ---"; 2 references, meant to be funny, about the length of an animal's p_____; and 1 instance of a crude slang word that we don't use in our house. I was surprised that it is being touted by Christian bookstores. Some may also find a man playing the part of God irreverent.
The story line was creative, and the way the animals were used in the film was very good. Displaying 1 to 6 (of 6 reviews) ( View all 6 reviews) |
